Both Byron Woods and North Woods Montessori School are dedicated to inspiring each student to achieve their academic, physical and social potential in an enriched Montessori environment.

Casa Program

The purpose of the Casa program is to assist the development of the whole child. True to the Montessori method, we offer a prepared environment that enables children to learn naturally, through spontaneous and self-directed activities. The teachers assist the child in developing a strong character and a love of learning which sets a foundation for life.

Using the Montessori method of education, the child’s development and growth are achieved through authentic Montessori materials and exercises in:

  • Practical Life
  • Sensorial
  • Mathematics
  • Language
  • Art
  • French
  • Culture
  • Music

The Montessori Philosophy is based on `freedom of movement’. The teacher is a guide, introducing the materials appropriate to each child’s individual abilities and interests. Children are encouraged to choose their own work independently and with freedom of choice, within limits. The Montessori materials enable children to attain independence, self-control, self-confidence, fine motor co-ordination, concentration skills and a sense of order.

Outdoor at Byron Woods

Our school resides on a beautiful ravine setting where the children have regular outdoor play times to take full advantage of the natural surroundings. The completely fenced playground has a large space which offers a tricycle path and sandbox shaded by trees, age-appropriate play structure, basketball pad and open space for running and playing. Outdoor time allows the children to develop their physical and social skills.

Outdoor at North Woods

Our Casa playground is completely fenced with soft artificial turf surfacing, age-appropriate play structures, sand box, educational equipment, tricycle path, open space for running and playing and a large sun catcher for shade. The outdoor time allows the children to develop their physical and social skills.

Rest Time

The Casa program offers a quiet/rest period where children engage in quiet activities based on the child’s needs. Resting mats and cots are available if a child is unable to participate in the program (ex. falls asleep, ill).

All meals and snacks are included in the tuition fee. We ensure that all food preparation for the children is peanut/nut safe. We can accommodate most food and environmental allergies. Meals are prepared by a qualified cook and meet all Ministry of Education Early Years Division, Middlesex-London Health Unit and Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating guidelines. Children in the after school program are required to bring a peanut/nut safe snack.

Field Trips

The children enjoy many new experiences and always look forward to school excursions. Some of our destinations have been: apple orchards; maple syrup festivals; farms; live theatre performances and Storybook Gardens. Parent volunteers are always welcome to us on school trips.

Teacher/Student Ratio

Our Casa classrooms maintain an optimal teacher to student ratio of 1:8, with the maximum number of students in each class of 24.

Extended Care

Extended care meets the needs of the families for both before and after school with our experienced staff from 7:30 to 9:00 AM and 4:00 to 5:30 PM.

We are always happy to receive visitors and show them our program. We invite you to tour our school and speak with our Montessori teachers to learn more about our program. Please call to arrange an appointment.
