Both Byron Woods and North Woods Montessori School are dedicated to inspiring each student to achieve their academic, physical and social potential in an enriched Montessori environment.

Toddler Program

The first three years of a child’s life are the most critical as the child’s physical, mental and emotional development begin. The purpose of the Toddler program is to assist in the development of the whole child.

We offer an environment that is a thoughtful extension of the home and enables children to grow and learn through spontaneous and self-directed activities. The teachers assist the child in developing a strong character and a love of learning which sets a foundation for life. Using the Montessori method of education, the child’s development and growth are achieved through authentic Montessori materials and exercises in:

  • Practical Life
  • Sensorial
  • Mathematics
  • Language
  • Art
  • French
  • Culture
  • Music

The Montessori Philosophy is based on `freedom of movement’. The teacher is a guide, introducing the materials appropriate to each child’s individual abilities and interest. During this period, the child absorbs effortlessly from her or his surroundings and needs to be free to explore and discover. Children are curious. They acquire knowledge and understanding of their surroundings by manipulating and touching the objects in their environment.

Toilet Training

We recognize this process requires patience and time and is very important that it be a positive learning experience for the child. Our teachers are very supportive with toilet training and praise them for their attempts. Parents supply disposable diapers, creams, powders and wipes.

Outdoor at Byron Woods

Our Toddler playground has a beautiful ravine view, where the children have regular outdoor playtime and take full advantage of the natural surroundings. The completely fenced playground has a rubberized soft surface, sand box, educational equipment, tricycles and open space for running and playing. The outdoor time allows the children to develop their physical and social skills.

Outdoor at North Woods

Our beautiful Toddler playground is completely fenced with soft artificial turf surfacing, age-appropriate play structures, sand box, educational equipment, tricycle path, open space for running and playing and a large sun catcher for shade. The outdoor time allows the children to develop their physical and social skills.

Nap Time

All children are expected to take a nap or have a quiet time lying down after lunch. Nap time is from 12:00 to 2:00. The school provides a cot, sheet and blanket. Our bedding is washed weekly.

Meals

All meals and snacks are included in the tuition fee. We ensure that all food preparation for the children is peanut/nut safe. We can accommodate most food and environmental allergies. Meals are prepared by a qualified cook and meet all Ministry of Education Early Years Division, Middlesex-London Health Unit and Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating guidelines. Children in the after school program are required to bring a peanut/nut safe snack.

Field Trips

Our Toddler children do not leave the school premises for excursions. We have guest speakers and presentations throughout the year for our Toddlers to experience.

Teacher/Student Ratio

Our Toddler classroom maintains an optimal teacher to student ratio of 1:5, with the maximum number of students in each class of 15.

Extended Care

Extended care meets the needs of the families for both before and after school with our experienced staff from 7:30 to 9:00 AM and 4:00 to 5:30 PM.
